Arlington Court Activities in the Time of COVID
Arlington Court Skilled Nursing & Rehab
Activities are vital in nursing homes and most people do not realize that. Activities help to improve the quality of life for the residents. Activities can be beneficial for residents psychologically, socially, spiritually, and physically. Participation in activities will help improve their mental well-being and can eliminate depression or loneliness. It helps them to realize that they are not alone especially during COVID.
At Arlington Court, I go around daily to interact with our residents. I bring them different activities that they can do independently like coloring, word searches, crosswords, books etc. A favorite among my female residents… Nail day! Certainly the activity that takes the BEST ACTIVITY crown here at Arlington Court is Bingo! We are lucky enough to have a big dining room to allow social distancing and still be able to play bingo all together. I have used many “activity carts” as ways to keep residents engaged with all the restrictions. A few examples would be snack carts, craft carts, and book carts. It is important for residents to have activities and to be connected with their loved ones.
To help stay connected with your loved one when visits are being restricted due to COVID.
1) Establish a regular contact schedule– Commit to contacting your loved one regularly and on a schedule that way they know when to expect to hear from you. This helps to give them something to look forward to.
2) Talk on the phone- Your loved ones love to talk to you and see what you’ve been doing during their stay. It is a great way to stay connected during this time.
3) Do video calls – Next to talking on the phone, seeing your loved one over the phone is great. They like to see your face when communicating. If you should need help setting up a video call, please contact the facility at 614-451-5677 and ask for the activity department.
4) Drop off letters or care packages- Residents love to get letters and care packages from you. It brightens their day. Encourage other family members and friends to send in letters as well. This helps to keep your loved one connected and helps them get through this time.
We look forward to the day our visitors and families can enjoy the fun we have at Arlington Court with us!
